Compare Dulce et decorum est by Wilfred Owen, and Before Agincourt Essa
Compare Dulce et decorum est by Wilfred Owen, and in the lead Agincourt by William Shakespeare. onward Agincour and Dulce et decorum est========================================I have elect to compare two poesys for this piece of work, and theyare Dulce et decorum est by Wilfred Owen, and Before Agincourt byWilliam Shakespeare. Both look at War as the of import subject, but expressvery different views on it. Wilfred Owen has written a very powerfulpoem about a man demise from a gas attack during the First World War,whereas Shakespeare writes a cajolery poem about the honour and pridefound in battle.Dulce et decorum est, and Before Agincourt are two poems soincredibly far a charge, in meaning, from each other, that it is verydifficult to compare them. The one big variation is their attitudetowards war. Wilfred Owen has actually been in a war. He saw what hewrote about. He was at that place, as the writing is his thoughts andfeelings. Shakespeare wasnt in the war he wrote about. He wroteabout it after it happened, either as a way to boost morale in Englandat the time of the Spanish Armada for top executive Elizabeth, or because theywere his own views on War. This battle did actually happen, but enthalpydidnt say these words, Shakespeare just put them in his mouth.Owens poem is concrete. It happened and was real. He knows whathes talking about because he was there and went through it all.Shakespeares poem is airy. Its abstract and doesnt face tomean anything. At a first glance its just hands talking, but when youread it properly you see that it is far more than that. hydrogen believesso much in what hes saying that hes prepared to die for it. Itsa very unearthly poem, in that it is not earthed, o... ...y using wordssuch as guttering, hoots and gargling.Shakespeare use no similes either, but Owen did, writingBent double, like old beggars to a lower place sacks. In conclusion, I enjoyed Owens poem much more than I didShakespeares. I felt that Before Agin court was boring. I didntlike the leave out of tension, action and drama. I thought that it justwent on and on well-nigh the same idea, that the language was flowery andtoo old fashioned for me. Although two poems were repetitive, whenDulce et decorum est repeated words, it really hammered themessage home, but when Before Agincourt repeated the same idea, itjust bored me. I felt that Owens poem less boring because it wasfast paced. It really happened and the images it described were graphicaland in your face. So, I would definitely recommend Owens poem toanyone, and I did really enjoy writing about it.
